About Me

Hi, I’m Christa.

I was born in 1971 and raised in a suburb outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania called Plymouth Meeting. Horseback riding camp, field hockey and summers spent down the shore in Avalon and Sea Isle City, New Jersey filled my idyllic childhood. After graduating from an all-girls private school I attended the University of Delaware because it was rated in the Top 20 Party Schools by Playboy Magazine in 1987. Some would find that troubling, but I wanted to be a part of that party. AND I WAS.  After a conditional semester in the Agriculture Department (So NOT me it needs to be screamed) I earned straight A’s and was formally accepted into the Consumer Economics program. I minored in Communication and graduated Cum Laude in 1993. In December of 1993 I moved to Salt Lake City, Utah following in the footsteps of my high school boyfriend. Six months later we broke up and I found myself in the middle of nowhere with a crazy fun job as an advertising sales rep with a burgeoning alternative newsweekly called Salt Lake City Weekly. I spent twelve years topping sales records and creating and laying out thousands of ads for local and national clients like Virgin Records, Bacardi, Deer Valley Resort and Sundance Film Festival. I was moving and shaking on a fast track with local concert promoters and club and restaurant owners. In 2004 I married and in 2005 I left my job to be a stay at home yoga mom to 2 boys, Anthony (age 12) and Matteo (age 10). In 2015 I wrote a weekly column in the City Weekly called Shop Girl which highlighted local style and shopping. I loved writing but felt that I needed to express more of who I am with this writing blog. In 2019 I was asked to join the board of the Golden Rule Project, a Utah non-profit with the mission to increase goodwill by sharing the Golden Rule through arts and education. Treat others as you would like to be treated. I believe we are all one and by planting seeds of compassion and kindness to elementary children we can bridge any difference between us. You can find me in a yoga studio, hiking, playing my records and cooking. Not one to gloat but I am a damn great cook in the vein of my Italian grandmother, Adalgisa Matteo. I’m always down for a live music show or an art gallery opening. And my life wouldn’t be complete without frequent travels back east where I recharge my Philly attitude which is an indelible part of who I am.
